RANCHI: According to the sales figures of books at the National Book Fair, there is a surge in demand for spiritual and autobiographical books in the post-pandemic era. The10-day fair, organized by Samay India, New Delhi, at the local Zila school ground in Ranchi hosted more than 80 stalls displaying an extensive collection of books spanning various subjects.
The surge in demand for such books is so significant that restocking them daily has become a necessity to meet the demand of avid readers.
Geeta Press, renowned for its collection of spiritual books, is actively replenishing its stock to keep pace with the soaring demand.
Chandra Bhushan, managing trustee of Samay India and convener of the book fair, said, “After the Covid-19 period, we have observed a notable shift in people’s interest towards the spiritual realm. The younger generation are also showing interest in spiritual literature.”
Sanjeev Singh, coordinator at the stall of Yogda Satsang Society of India, said, “Readers want to explore about real-life stories and personal experiences they can relate to. Several copies of the ‘Autobiography of a Yogi’ has been sold in the last one week.” Anjali Sharma, a teacher and a customer, said, “These books provide relevant examples from real life to co-relate the teachings of gurus and help us face daily life challenges.”
